What is a website, what will it cost me,
how do I get one?
Some have text, pictures, moving parts, sound, video... but they all work the same. Someone has to design the site using professional software and put it on the internet. There are a couple key things you need to know about websites...
You type in a domain like codyelkins.com....The website you see is being hosted on a webserver. The page you see has been designed by a developer. You get what you want from the website and leave.
This is the same thing that will happen to your visitors. Remember the three keywords: domain, hosted, and designed.
Domain.
Domains cost around $20 per year. You get to register any domain you wish as long as nobody else has it. For example, if you want your site to be called gobigger.net, or floydelmore.com you have to go to a registrar like directnic.com and look for your domain, if it's available, buy it! We can get a domain with keywords for you.
Hosting a website.
Hosting your website can cost anywhere from twenty bucks per month to thousands of dollars per month, depending on how many people are visiting your site and what kind of information your site provides. For example, a new website with a few visitors will pay very little per month for hosting, and a site like MySpace will pay thousands per month for hosting. All because of how popular their website is. It all depends on how much hardware is needed.
